Biochar Carbon Project Development

Biochar carbon project development is the end-to-end process of turning a biomass resource into issued, sellable carbon-removal credits. We act as your development partner from first feasibility through to issuance and sale, coordinating feedstock, technology, MRV, registry and offtake as one programme.

What it is

Most biochar projects fail not at the kiln but in the gaps between disciplines — a feedstock plan that ignores seasonality, a technology choice that misses the methodology’s quality thresholds, MRV that auditors reject. Project development is the discipline of joining those pieces into one bankable programme.

We lead (or support) the whole journey: scoping and feasibility, technology and methodology selection, project design, validation and verification, issuance, and credit sales. You keep one accountable partner instead of stitching together six vendors.

We work only with sustainable, genuine-waste or surplus biomass — residues that would otherwise be burned or left to decompose — so additionality and integrity hold up under scrutiny.

Who it's for

  • Project developers standing up their first biochar CDR project
  • Agribusinesses and aggregators with a secured residue stream
  • Industry with on-site biomass wanting a turnkey development partner
  • Investors backing a developer who need delivery de-risked

Our process

  1. 01

    Scope & feasibility

We confirm the feedstock, logistics, technology fit and carbon potential, and model the economics so the go / no-go decision rests on evidence — all figures presented as estimates, not promises.

  2. 02

    Design & methodology

We select the registry and methodology, set biochar-quality and MRV targets, and author the project design document (PDD).

  3. 03

    Build & validate

We support technology commissioning and production ramp-up, then manage validation with an accredited body.

  4. 04

    Verify, issue & sell

We run verification, registry issuance and the offtake process so removals become credits and credits become revenue.

What you get

  • A single, sequenced project development roadmap with owners and milestones
  • Bankable techno-economic model with estimated credit volumes and sensitivities
  • Methodology and registry recommendation with rationale
  • Project design document and validation/verification management
  • Offtake strategy and buyer introductions

FAQs

Biochar Carbon Project Development: common questions

How long does it take to develop a biochar carbon project?

It varies widely with feedstock readiness, technology and registry. As a rough estimate, many projects move from feasibility to first issuance in roughly 12–24 months, but this is indicative only and depends on validation and verification timelines outside any consultant’s control.

Do you develop the project or just advise?

Both. We can lead development end-to-end as your partner, or support an in-house team on specific stages. We are independent and vendor-neutral, so our recommendations are not tied to any technology supplier or registry.

What makes a biochar project bankable?

A secured, sustainable feedstock supply; technology matched to the methodology’s quality thresholds; conservative, audit-ready MRV; and a credible route to market. We pressure-test all four before capital is committed.

Start with a feasibility assessment

Tell us about your feedstock and goals. We'll tell you, on evidence, whether and how your project can become durable carbon-removal credits — estimates clearly stated, never guaranteed.
