Biochar MRV — measurement, reporting and verification — is how a project proves each tonne of CO₂ it removes. We design conservative, audit-ready MRV systems, including digital MRV (dMRV) that captures production and application data at source so verification is faster and disputes are rarer.
What it is
MRV is the evidence base for every credit. It covers how biochar is sampled and lab-tested, how carbon and the H:Corg ratio are measured, how production and application are tracked, and how baselines, leakage and uncertainty are handled.
We design MRV to be conservative and auditable, and increasingly digital — capturing batch weights, production parameters and application records at source. Good dMRV reduces verification cost and the risk of an auditor rejecting your data.

What is digital MRV (dMRV) for biochar?
Digital MRV captures the data that proves removals at the point it is created — batch weights, pyrolysis parameters, biochar lab results and application records — in a traceable digital system rather than on paper. It tends to lower verification cost and strengthen audit defensibility.
How is biochar permanence measured?
Primarily through the hydrogen-to-organic-carbon (H:Corg) ratio from accredited lab analysis. A lower ratio indicates more stable carbon; methodologies use it to assign an estimated permanence, often centuries to 1,000+ years. These are scientific estimates, not guarantees.
